More about this scene
Note the tram lines running down the middle of the street. On the left is the imposing Georgian church of All Saints, built in 1795. Badly damaged during World War Two, it was finally demolished in the 1950s. Jane Austen knew this church and its minister, the Reverend Richard Mant. Ahead is the spire of St Lawrence's Church, which was pulled down in 1929 after it became redundant.
