More about this scene
The open-air bathing pool was a new attraction, opened in time for the long hot summer of 1914. On Sunday 28 June, as Lancashire enjoyed the hottest day of the year, an event was taking place that would set Europe aflame. In Sarajevo, Bosnia, the heir to the throne of the Austria-Hungarian Empire, Franz Ferdinand, and his wife were assassinated, triggering the First World War.
