More about this scene
All long piers, such as those at Southport, Ramsey in the Isle of Man, and Southend, were equipped with tramways, though the original idea behind them was for the conveyance of passengers, baggage, and small items of freight to and from the steamers. Some were manually worked until the 1930s, others used small steam, electric or petrol-engined locomotives. Railcars were introduced after the Second World War.
