St Albans, St Peter's Street 1921

My Great Grandmother was a school caretaker (I think at St Peter's school on the corner of Catherine and Church street) in 1911. She lived with her family at 16 New Dalton street. Her name was Rose Cleaver (nee Rope) maiden name Thompson. I am trying to find a photo of her as l haven't got one of her. I was told one of the headteacher at the school was a Mr Roper, can anyone give me more information? Thank you.

From the age of 2 in November 1949 until December 1953, due to my mother's very early death, I found myself enrolled as a resident at The Lawrence Children's Home in King Harry Lane, St Albans. I am 83 years old, my Grandparents lived in this village most of their lives until my Grandmother death in the 1940's when I was child I spent most of my weekends here my Grandmother lived in a cottage named Davis Cottages there was only two of them but now demolished, these cottage were opposite the Water Splash I can remember going over to use the swimming pool, next door was a café called The Spot the bus ...see more

No photographs but I don't need them! So many happy memories of our family living in Lattimore Road...Wellers, Days, The Labour Exchange, Boxes, Fisher & Knights and Lattimore Hall. We had it all! Despite a war and rationing, our neighbours were the best you could want. Regretfully we have lost touch with them as they grew up and scattered, like our family. Anyone remember the Victory Street Party in 1945? Anyone with memories of this time and/or Alma Road school?
