More about this scene
In the late 19th century the Square was called Hydro Terrace. The Midland Bank is on the left, with Stead & Simpson's shoe shop next door. Wide streets denote a planned town. The main drainage scheme at St Anne's was inaugurated by William J Porritt on 18 August 1892; the first sod was cut with a silver and ebony spade. Lytham became part of St Anne's in 1922, but the towns have kept their own identities to a large extent, although they are now referred to as a single entity.
