A street cleaner works below the church wall, while a boy seems interested in William Box's grocery, wine and spirit shop; two ladies approach Russell and Co's drapery shop next door. Facing the end of the street beyond the White Hart, the huge block reflects the confidence and wealth generated in the town by the china clay industry. Newly built in red bricks is Coode, Shilson and Co's St Austell Bank (now National Westminster); it was commonly known as 'the red bank'.

Hot Pastaaaayyy!!
From the point where this pic is taken, I remember as a child walking by on a Saturday and there was a man with a whicker basket selling hot pasties. About the mid 1960's. He didn't just shout 'Hot Pasties' , he used to shout 'Hot Pastaaayyy'.

Wartime Coalville
I lived in Coalville in 1940. My father was a Police Inspector and we lived at the Vaughan Street Police station. There were two flats, the other was occupied by Dad's Sergeant. The Court used to sit upstairs in another part of the building. I went to Bridge Road School, starting as an infant. Hengoed Stute Kings Hill Hengoed
I can remember going to the top of kings hill in Hengoed , up some steps and into the stute. It seemed a massive building to me as a child. I can still remember the smell of it. And the fact that children were only allowed in a certain part to buy sweets. Has anyone got any photos of the stute ,or memories of it. It was pulled down ,I think in the 1960,s. Kim price( Carey)

Memories Of Brentford 1950 1970

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
