Good Old Stafford

A Memory of Stafford.

I was born and baptised at St Berklins on the Eccleshall Rd in 1966 . I used to remember the old indoor market , it took you ages with everyone trying to get their shopping for the weekend , You could get get nearly anything you wanted in the first part , then through the doors and into the second part to get your veg , cheese , biscuits and meat . Used to hate going into Barclays bank so dad could get cash out for the week . Dad worked for Thermoaccoustics on Common Road industrial estate were I did a few weeks work during school holidays, little did I know I'd be working on the same industry estate years later, both at Ready mix concrete and then Downings waste recovery. Did my YTS at castleworks with two weeks work placement at Henry Venables. Worked out of Stafford in Stone for two years, but ended up working right on the edge of the town centre at Traction Equipment Ltd. I used to have plenty of time to walk down to Peter Rogers to get film for my camera. The Stafford town that I used to love has been killed off by the greed of development companies and the internet, like most towns and villages.
