More about this scene
Sir Walter Raleigh was found guilty of treason in the old Market House at Staines, which has since been demolished. A plague had prevented the Court from holding the trial in London. A short distance from Staines is the site of an earlier and very important event in English history, Runnymede: here Magna Carta was signed by King John in 1215.
