Happy Memories Of Standon Church And School

A Memory of Standon.

I went to Standon School between 1959 to 1965 they were very happy days, Mr Butler was the Headmaster at the time I remember him playing cricket in the play ground with the boys some dinner breaks.
I also remember going on school journeys in 1964 and 1965 to Norfolk and Somerset, Mrs Cowan was one of the senior teachers, I know she made a collection of the books that everybody had who went on the trips, I think she had something to do with the Museum in the village after I left the school.
(I have still got one of the books)
We enjoyed doing work in the garden which was on a hill behind the play ground, there were ponds and lots of nice trees and flowers.
II also remember dancing on May Day down the High Street every year I was at the school, (the boys did a sword dance).

Standon Church, we enjoyed going to the church every Harvest Festival and taking fruit and veg for the old people of the village, we walked from the school to the church for a service every year.

I was christened there and also got married in the church to my wife Colleen a Standon girl, the vicar was Rev Caldwell Peers, he was a very nice man, made our day most enjoyable.

My Mum Dad and Nan are all laid to rest up the church yard .

To anyone who knows me, I would like to hear from you.
I have many more happy memories of Standon.
