Farming At Stanwell Moor

A Memory of Stanwell.

I lived at Hithermoor Farm,Stanwell Moor from birth in 1951 until 1973.We farmed part of the Reservoirs and a large chunk of Greenhams Gravel Pit land. Many happy memories.Started school at Shortwood,Staines in 1956 with Mrs McLoughlin as teacher. Then school moved to Lord Knivets at Stanwell with Mr Fox and Mrs Staples.I always remember Mrs Lavender, the Caretaker giving us boys conkers. After about a year, moved to Town Farm School.Teachers included Miss Skeggs,Mrs Snary,Mr Barker,Mr Munnings for music,Mr Kasp,Mrs Hildreth.Fellow pupils included Malcolm Stokes,Jeremy Crame,Denise Davies,Linda Simmons,Paul Euden,Colin Flurry,Freddie Taylor,Jennifer Johnson and Paul Hudson. Many happy memories.Happy to hear from anyone who knew me as lost touch with most of my friends. I was born in Homers Villa in 1950 (now gone, but was on the A30 opposite Harrow Road) which was surrounded by two farms. I remember one of the farmers names, Stiles, but the other one I'm not sure of, possibly Bennet? Mr Father owned the Orchard Cafe also on the A30 just up from Homers Villa and my Grandfather (and then my Uncle) owned the nursery next to the Cafe. I initially went school in Staines (Staines preparatory with the bright yellow blazers with light blue piping - unfortunately, photos of me in said blazer still exist) but when 5, I was sent to St Annes school (Mr Royer was the "scary" teacher), just across the field from Homers Villa, in Short Lane. When I was about six we swapped homes with the Busby family, who lived in the bungalow right next to Cafe. (One of my playmates was Chery Busby and another was Anthony Dempski who lived in a caravan on the farm next to the cafe)
