1965 saw the completion of this dam, which has made Llyn Clywedog Reservoir a nature lover's delight. The reservoir provides drinking water for consumers from Llanidloes to Bristol. At 72m, this it is the highest concrete dam in the UK, and was also intended to control the flow of water into the River Severn to help prevent flooding. The amount of water held back by the dam can apparently supply 555 million baths!

Slate miners of Staylittle and why they moved to the coal mines in South Wales, Grancher and his father were in this category. Did the slate mining in Staylittle stop?
I attended the primary school in Staylittle and was one of the last children there when it closed down, I think in the end there were only 7 or 8 of us. I came from the village of Llwyn y gog which at the time was the Forestry Commission village. I have found memories of Mrs Jones our teacher, I also remember Mr Roberts the headmaster with his red wild hair! We used to stand in a line by the piano ...see more
