More about this scene
The inn was originally called the Harrow, but changed its name to the White Horse in 1769. It stood at the crossroads of the footpath which led from Verulanium (St Albans) via Wheathampstead to Hitchin, once travelled by the Roman legions, mediaeval pilgrims, and by the fugitive King Charles the First while in disguise.
