More about this scene
19th-century race days on Danebury Downs brought many keen race-goers to Stockbridge, including Edward VII and Lily Langtry. Shops and eating houses would be bustling. Excellent cakes were on sale from a nearby bakery and painted ladies in their bustles and boats would drape the verandah (where the garage is now). The races are gone; only a hint of the past lingers in Lillie's Bakery and Tearoom.
