More about this scene
In the early 1600s Stokesay was owned by Lord Craven. He fell in love with Elizabeth of Bohemia (sister to Charles I); rumour has it that they secretly married after the death of her husband, Frederick V the Elector Palatine. Lord Craven refurbished Stokesay for Elizabeth; it is sad to think that she never even came here.
