Memories Of Stoney Stanton Quarry
A Memory of Stoney Stanton.
I started work in the quarry at the age of 16. I started as a what they call a 'grease monkey' and what I had to do was grease the pulley wheels and the steel cable that pulled wagons out of the quarry. I worked with my dad Jack Meyrick, who worked the winch also. Had to help electricians Sid Clarke and Jack Rumble as well as Amele Adamchka a polish mechanic. Went down to Shilton Quarry to help repair the rolling stock of narrow gauge railway. We lived at 28 Long Street and 17 Huncote Road, Stoney Stanton till I jointed the army in 1949.
