Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

More about this scene

The building on the left of this picture is the Institute and Social Club, which was opened in 1937. Today the Town Hall, beyond, could be described as a shell fronting the new Crown Centre shopping arcade, which was built in the 1980s. The complex also houses the town's library and various meeting rooms. The earlier sign for public lavatories has now been replaced by a sign which reads, much more bluntly, 'Toilets'.

Echoes Of Forgotten Laughter
Stourbridge was my stamping ground as a young girl. I was born 1944 and I remember shopping there with my mother and then going to one of the many cinemas to watch a film, (remember when we had two films in one programme?) There was a fish and chip shop in Coventry St, where you could go upstairs and be served. We only went once as mom was a widow and hadn't much money but I've never forgotten that ...see more

Shopping In The High Street
I was born in 1946 and lived in a house in South Road, not far from Jimmy Parkes the butcher. This was, of course, well before the advent of supermarkets. My mother and I used to walk from South Road, along Clifton Street and down Lion Passage and then Lion Street into town every Friday for the weekly shop. Heath Lane
I moved from Elmdon Heath, Solihull to a Grocers Shop in Heath Lane approx. 1953 with my parents, Sister & Brother. We used to walk down to the Park when we could. As youngsters, you could in those days. A packed lunch + bread for the ducks if I remember. Whatever the weather, we would go. Wish I could find details of our Shop. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
