Colway Cottages Streethouse

A Memory of Streethouse.

My name is Janet Dowey (nee Seymour) I was born at 74 Meadway in 1951, my parents were Bill and Ruth Seymour my grandparents Thomas and Emily Seymour. Gran and Grandad lived in Colway Cottages in the old pit yard, many times I sat with my grandad watching the trains go by. I have wonderful childhood memories spent with my grandparents, of gardening with my gran and going for walks, I just wish I remembered all that she told me about herbs and plants.

Please does anyone know when Colway Cottages were demolished and was there ever an old mine in the yard as my gran often used talk about one being there.

There was an old mine in the yard but it escapes me, the Whitwell Maine(mine) nearby I remember it there in the 70's but not long after a dog breeder had the large house an then a row of houses.
on the remembering streethouse site there are a few maps showing the pit yard (as we called it) and a shaft is marked on it, I also remember my dad and me walking on a path parallel to the railway and there were old mine remains and red shale there.
