Sudbury, St Gregory's Church, The Font Cover c.1960

More about this scene
The font cover is one of the finest medieval covers in England, with tabernacle work rising in stages to 12 feet in height. Off to the right is the chapel in which the image of Our Lady of Sudbury stood until 1535. The chancel contains 20 stalls with misericords, which belonged to the college founded by Archbishop Simon of Sudbury in 1375. He was beheaded by the London mob during the Peasant's Revolt of 1381, and his head is preserved in the vestry.
