More about this scene
This shows the church about 12 years before its closure in 1972. In the time of the Rev John Molyneux (1855-79), the church became a bastion of High Church worship, leading to many disputes with the Archdeacon and Bishop. All the pews were sold in the market on 31 March 1859 and replaced with these chairs. The 20-foot-high reredos depicting the crucifixion was designed by George Bodley, who also built the new tower at Long Melford.
