More about this scene

In the 17th century, Swanbridge was one of the numerous small ports dotted around the Glamorgan coast shipping goods to Uphill and Bristol. As larger harbours were built, both Swanbridge and Sully ceased to be used as ports, but with the advent of cheap rail travel they became holiday beaches for day trippers from Cardiff and the surrounding areas.

A Selection of Memories from Sully

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Sully

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

i was a patient in Sully hospital in 1953 aged 6yrs when it was a TB isolation hospital. I had a lobectomy and spent 9 months there and was there during the Coronation and it was the first time I saw a television set. Now I am a very fit 68 yr old and I owe my life to the surgeon and staff who operated on me! Carol Johnston
I started work as a nursing assistant at Sully Hospital on November 11 1974. I later went on to undertake nurse training in 1977. I returned to work at Sully for a couple of years in the early 1980s. I am now a District Nursing sister based in Ely Cardiff.
My mother Edith Templeman as a child seems to remember two black soldiers being hung for the rape of a local church organist during the Second World War, does anyone know if this was true?
I was a teenage patient in Sully for six months. Now I am writing my own memoirs of this time and would appreciate hearing from other ex-patients. My email address is: annshaw@mac.com
