Happy Childhood
A Memory of Sutton Coldfield.
I was an evacuee from Coventry at the age 6 with my mother and 4 siblings. We had been bombed out of our house and came to live in what i think was a Manse next to the Church in Coleshill Street. (on a memory lane trip years later number 18 Coleshill street was gone and replaced by another building.) At the bottom of the road was an American base which is presumably where the soldiers who controlled the POW's were based. My fondest memories are of Sutton Park where my sibling's and I would walk to at any opportunity. We met and spoke to POW's.,were entertained at Xmas by the Americans who laid on parties for children.
