Sutton Park was one of the largest in Warwickshire, over 2,000 acres of woodlands and lakes.The park made the town something of a tourist attraction. During Whit- week 1882 the town had over 19,000 visitors; in 1883 it had 11,300; and in 1884 it had 17,400.

I went to Burcot Grange School in Mere Green. From 1961-1964 or there about. Mrs Keates was the Headmistress and her husband was the vicar. Mrs Shinner was deputy head.
I got told off for dangling my legs out of the top floor window with my friends watching from the ground! ( wooden bars were erected across the window as a result!)

I attended the Infants/Junior school at New Oscott by the Princess Alice Orphanage before going to Boldmere High School 1953 /1957. On leaving school I joined the railway at Sutton Park Station home of the sorting office for overseas forces mail , when the mail office finished I was lucky enough to get a job on the Midland Red based at its garage in Upper Holland Rd ,happy memories of my time on ...see more
