Ahhhhhh, Swainby.

A Memory of Swainby.

I grew up here in the 70's and left the village in 1982. My Mother ran the first shop on the high street for a number of years having taken it over from my Grandfather Alfred Horsman, who was also on the Hambleton District Council if my memory serves me right.
My Father, also called Alf ran the Blacksmiths arms pub for a short time during the 80's with his second wife Anne after his discharge from the RAF. His ashes are actually scattered on the banks of the "beck" just oppostie Rose cottage which was his mothers (Esther Horsman) place of residence before she passed away in the early 80's. Have many fond memories of hiking up Shepards hill on red hot Sunday afternoons, bramble picking along the way, finally reaching "Sheepwash" at the top of the moor and surveying the scene of the villages below. Happy, happy days. I often find my thoughts wandering to this beautiful Village that i will always consider my home.
