More about this scene
We are looking north-east from Fleet Street towards Milford Street, with the junction of Bridge Street to the right. Next to Burton's store stands the original bookshop of W H Smith, 53 Fleet Street, which opened here in 1925. On the extreme left is Peacocks, the drapers. The building had been the Central Cinema from 1912 for about thirty years. Peacocks remained trading from here until recent years. On the corner of the northern section of Bridge Street stands Lennard's shoe shop.
