More about this scene
Looking towards the Town Hall It is a busy summer's day in the 1960s. At this time traffic was still allowed in one direction up Regent Street, with parking varying from one side to the other depending on the day of the week. The Baptist Tabernacle and the Gas Board showrooms are to the right, whilst on the left stands the red brick Riflemans Hotel, which dates from 1888. Today the Victorian brick building has been painted an overall cream colour, but unusually in these days, it retains its original name.
