Memories of Sydenham, c1960

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. These memories are of Sydenham, c.1960

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

My first Saturday job (1973) was in a ladies hair salon, a couple of shops along from this camera shop, in Kirkdale. I think it was called Estelle. The owner was called Erica, who was quite classy and very nice. It was opposite Cobb’s. Just along the street, on the other side, was an Esso garage, where my brother worked on Saturdays.
12th of may 1959, not a warm day, and it was a Monday...strange day to get married? cant remember why now. Lived in digs in Tannsfeld Rd. for a while, moved away for a few years..... then lived at 26 & 28 Venner rd, before they were demolished, so sad... they were strong solid houses. Sydenham always seemed to pull me back, but I am now settled in Sevenoaks in sheltered housing. My maiden name was Duckworth...ring any bells for any of you oldens ?.
I went to St Michael's School in Champion Crescent. My grandparents Annie and Ernie bines lived opposite the road. Good times.
