In the 1920s and 1930s, Ashtead expanded northwards towards Ashtead Common. This view was taken at the crossroads of Woodfield Road, Barnett Wood Lane and Craddocks Parade, the 1930s three- storey flats over shops. In the foreground is the ancient pond, once known as Oxmoor Pond, which lies in a stretch of green that is the southernmost outpost of Ashtead Common. The trees and park on the left across the road are the salient from the common into the suburbia of Lower Ashtead.

Monkey Puzzle Tree
As a kid in the 1970s, I remember being in my parents' car from London to Eastbourne, heading down the A217, passing through Tadworth. Visible from the road was a giant monkey puzzle tree in the grounds of Tadworth Court. I was fascinated by this sinister-looking 'tyrannosaurus rex' of the plant world...I recall that it was in decline by the late 1980s, and was a victim to high winds in around 1990. It's ...see more

Childhood
I lived here in the late 60's early 70's when it was closed. My dad Peter Bishop ran the pub up the road. Paid a nostalgic trip back here in Sept '19 and what a shame that the old place had gone. Still, brought back a lot of memories of playing in the garden and catching newts in the pond that was there. We had so much fun exploring the magical building. Tadworth 1943 1957
I was born over the shop at 1, High Street, then a MacFisheries where my Grandad was the manager until he retired at the end of October, 1956. We stayed there, with the shop closed, until moving to Downland Way, Tattenham Corner in 1958. Mum worked at R.J. Chapple (have I got the spelling right?) where she was the counter clerk at the sub-Post Office until she retired. The shops in the High Street that I remember ...see more

Jenette's Restaurant, The Start Of A Lifetimes Romance.
My memory for dates is suspect, so forgive any slight inaccuracy, however the important facts remain vivid and accurate memories. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
