More about this scene
This compact village is situated on the main coast road north of Aberystwyth; it grew up to serve the workers of the nearby lead mines and woollen mills. In addition to the inns, there were several chapels (one is visible on the hill slope near the middle of the picture) and a church (top right). The large building in the middle was a warehouse that provided the farmers and miners with all their requisites.
