Pre War Teignmouth

A Memory of Teignmouth.

Wandering through the old photos prompted a memory of the opening of the Boating Pond. What year was that? With others from the Barbara Spencer Edwards dance school, wearing white pleated skirts navy blue waistcoats and hats, we stood in the water by a large model of Drake’s Golden Hind and felt very important!
I was born in Teignmouth and lived there until 1940 when the family moved to Weston super Mare. Later I returned to Dawlish and attended Teignmouth Grammar school.
Our family name is Wills, my grandfather was Sidney Charles and he ran the Devon Arms in Northumberland Place. I never knew him or my grandmother who was born Ada Lockyer and died in South Africa when my father was only six years old.
It would be very interesting to learn more about pre-war Teignmouth.
