Treated Broken Leg In 1936 'marie Guest Memorial Hospital' (?), Templecombe.
A Memory of Templecombe.
At around the age of three, I was staying with my grandparents Richard (an ex-railwayman) and Kathleen Evett, in Templecombe, for a few days. While walking in a recreational area next to the railway marshalling yards, I twisted and broke my upper leg, ending up in this hospital, where I spent many weeks with my leg hoisted up by a 'cats cradle' of wires to keep it in place while the bone set. My earliest life memories are of the single room that I was in there, the kind and patient (I was fractious at times) nurses who took care of me, and the black & white Fresian cows who grazed next to the hospital below my first floor window. I did pass by about 15 years ago and my impression was that although part of the NHS, it was no longer a hospital. Does anyone know if that's correct? My grandparents were living in the village of Yarlington, when WWII broke out, and I don't know when they left Templecombe. My leg healed well and I've had no problems with it in later life.
