Tewkesbury (Common)

A Memory of Tewkesbury.

As a family living in the Black Country, we used to go out every Sunday in the summer with our (doings), as mom used to call them. In fact that was a camping gas stove to boil a kettle so we could have a cup of tea with our picnic. Dad seemed to know his way about everywhere or its seemed everywhere. Probably due to the fact he used to be a coach driver many years before I was born in 1964.
One of our favourite places we used to visit was a place he called Tewkesbury common but now living in Worcester myself, I have often visited Tewkesbury and even worked there on a couple of occasions and cannot find any reference to a Tewkesbury Common.

All I remember is we used to go through what I remember as a farm gate, into fields which had a wooded area where we used to play and also there were orchards and rows of plumb trees lining the lanes edge.

I would often take friends with us and they all still have their happy memories of our Sunday picnics at Tewkesbury Common.

Can anyone throw any light on where this area could have been. Someone did suggest it could be in or around Twinning.

I would be really grateful for any ideas so I can check on google earth and see if it still exists, although I have now come to the conclusion it is not called Tewkesbury common, perhaps that was just our name for it.

I wait with baited breath.

Sallie
