Although this is not the highest point in the county, the view from the top of the hill is superb in all directions. Our Iron Age ancestors appreciated the importance of the site and built a hill fort on the top, but it was abandoned when the Romans conquered the region. Today it isoccupied by tall communication masts.

When I was a young girl in the early 1950s I remember going with my parents halfway up the Wrekin and we would stop at this cottage and have Sunday tea, being scones and a pot of tea, then we would continue on foot to the top of the Wrekin, the summers seem so hot then.
