More about this scene
Thorney was part of the Duke of Bedford's estate, and played a focal part in the construction of the Bedford Levels in the 17th century. The Rose and Crown Hotel, and the Victorian estate cottages behind, are typical of houses elsewhere in the village - many of them have dated plaques.
