St Johns School

A Memory of Tiffield.

I was a boy at St Johns when it was known as an approved school (1966 to 1969). I had some great times, going out to play all sports. All the staff were good, no one was really strict. My house master was from Wales, a Mr Sullivan. Masters like Mr Twigg, Mr Bell and the headmaster was Mr Barsby (we called him Ticker Barsby). I was in Wake house. Mr Walters was second in charge at the school, he was mad keen on Rugby. Anyways, I am 60 now and I can honestly say it never did me any harm. Where have all the good times gone?

Comments & Feedback

Hi Mark - hope this finds you well after all these years! We did correspond once or twice I recall about St Johns a few years back.... I think I left there in about late 65 (I was back at home for the World Cup of '66). The reason why I am commenting is, I was just looking through lots of old photos and came across just one taken of me outside of Robarts House with the Admin block behind me and the row of classrooms going off to the right. If I can find a way to post it I will for just looking at the Admin block brings it all back!

Best Regards Mark
