More about this scene

The dramatic cliffs and ruined castle at Tintagel have been photographed from many angles over the years. Here we are looking from the 'island' back to the outer ward of the castle, with the access lane down the valley on the left. The building is now a café. The cliffside footpaths have since all changed as a result of rock falls over the intervening century. Another point of interest is the absence of the massive King Arthur's Castle Hotel, which was built soon afterwards on the headland to the left.

I was looking through pictures on the FF website of Cornwall, especially those of Helston & Tintagel. The picture of this church stirred an embarrassing memory… From the late ‘70’s to the new century, spent many Sumner hols at these Cornish villages. In 1955 I was 11 years old, I lived in New York with my parents and my brother. My mother was from Scotland, she and my father had met when he was in medical school there. 1954 was my mother's first trip back to see her family since she had left them in July 1943. My brother and I fell in love with Britain and everything about it. That summer we stayed in Scotland. We returned in 1955 and spent about 2 weeks in Tintagel ...see more
