Sainsbury In Tonbridge

A Memory of Tonbridge.

I may well have a poor recollection here as I would have been only 3 or 4 years old at the time but wasn't Sainsbury's first Tonbridge store located on the west side of the high street just south of the old post office / just north of the old Baptist church? - this is before they moved to Avebury avenue and subsequently to the Angel football ground area? This would have been in the early 1960's - Thanks for any memories / corrections you can share . I seem to recall walking in to a "U shaped counter surrounded by hanging meat and display cases of cheeses

I seem to remember it was one of the buildings close to what is now Humphrey Bean, (previously the Post Office from around 1963). It was close to the big bridge and almost opposite Woolworths. I remember going in there and it had counters from which you were served all round a central aisle all black and white tiles.
