A Selection of Memories from Tonypandy

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Tonypandy

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

My mother, Helen Wilson was born in Tonypandy in 1924. Her father was Charles Stuart Parnel Wilson. He went to Tonypandy to teach in a school there. Helens mother was Briget O'Sullivan Wilson. I am wanting to learn anything of their time there or hear even the slightest memory of what school this may have been, during that time. Thank you KH
Hi, I am searching for any information on a Tom Morse who moved to Tonypandy, I think between 1901 -1910, from Pembrokeshire, to become a coal miner. The information I have is that he married a local girl who ran a local newsagents and had 4 children.
I was born in Glyncornel Hospitla in 1948. I lived in Tonypandy till I was 14. I remember a faggot and peas shop next to Hathaways chip shop, it was called Maceys. It sold freshly cooked meats too. The lovely St George's Park. The mid where schools had their sports day, where we used to play after school (climbing over gate to get in). Tonypandy has changed for the worst.
My great-grandparents and great-great grandparents owned and ran the Faggot & Peas Shop in Tonypandy, Dunraven Street. Does anyone remember the shop? It was owned by Reuben Smith and his wife, and was passed onto their daughter. Can anyone remember who owned it? I would love to hear your memories!
