Torpenhow, 1980s
A Memory of Torpenhow.
My three friends and I visited Torpenhow several times during the 1980s. We were from Yorkshire, and our school had a facility in Torpenhow village with dormitories, canteen etc, and the school would take us there on trips. When we left school, we continued to visit the Lake District and returned to Torpenhow regularly. I have the most wonderful memory of The Sun Inn pub, which at the time was run by a couple called Arnold and Rhoda. We were made so welcome by them, and by the locals and I have some great nights, playing pool, listening to the jukebox and chatting with the villagers. My only regret is not having taken any photographs at the time. If anyone out there has any old photos, particularly of the pub, Arnold and Rhoda, the locals, it would be so nice to see them, bring back all those memories. It's a long shot I know, but thanks to everyone, in anticipation John Dillon.
