More about this scene
In AD 907, Edward, son of Alfred the Great, embarked on the building of a series of burhs, or fortified towns, as a defence against the Vikings. One of these burhs was at Totnes, built on a high spur overlooking the ford on the Dart. The castle keep, 70ft in diameter, was built in the 12th century.
