More about this scene
The red sandstone parish church of St Mary was built by Roger Growdon and dedicated in 1450 by Bishop Lacey, whose name can still be seen on pub signs around Devon. The 120ft tower was completed in 1459; stone for the building was landed at a quay specially built at the bottom of the hill.
