How funny. Just discovered this web site yesterday. Think we were in the same class at some point.

I think Tottenham as with most other towns in the country was a much safer and happier place to live in the 1960’s than it is now. One of my favourite times was leading up to bonfire night , we used to make a guy and take it onto west green road and ask ‘penny for the guy’ and the money we used to get actually got spent on fireworks ! Don’t think children today would even know what a ‘guy’ was ! I can remember the steam trains running along under the bridge at the top of avenue road , me and my mates used to sit on the embankment and throw stones at them and laugh at the driver shouting at us . Chestnuts park was always a favourite with the witches hat to ride on , no rubberised surfaces in those days , you took your chances with the tarmac ! I also remember the traumatic visits to the dentist which was also situated in chestnuts park , I can still feel the belt driven drill now and the terrifying gas day , Thursdays I think it was when you had your teeth pulled out,. Who remembers ‘Dingles’ toy shop ? It was on st Anne’s road . We also used to watch the mysterious nuns moving about in the convent on st Anne’s road , we could see it from the playground of st Anne’s school . Good times
