Jim's Cafe In Tottenham Hale

A Memory of Tottenham.

Does anybody remember Jim's Cafe in The Hale?

Jim was a lovely old guy, quite short with white hair and ridden with Arthritis.

Always had a fag in his mouth, never complained about anything, always working hard.

The cafe was frequented by all the locals, workers and kids alike.

The entertainment was a Juke Box and I would think that most of Jim's turnover came from huge quantities of tea and toast, which appeared to be the popularist request when ever I was in there, probably because that was all the visitors could afford.

I moved from Tottenham around 1955 and have no idea what hapenned to Jim or when the Cafe was demolished.

I lived in Scales Road from 1951 to 1964 and probably passed it mossed days but never used it once!My friend Mickey Collis lived in that road beside it (Welbourne Road? home of Adele and Leslie Phillips who underwent elocution lessons to lose his Tottenham accent so he could speak like a twit and make "Carry On" his life!). Don't know when it closed.Everything's changed down there now and I live in Kentucky now ay 84!Best wishes Dennis Austin.
Hi Dennis,
It was good to find a response from regarding Jim's Cafe. I Lived in High Cross Road from 1945 to 1956 and my Nan and Grandad lived at the bottom of Welbourne Road, near to Jim's Cafe. I'm coming up to 80 in January and now live in Southampton. It's good to hear from a Tottenhamite. I guess like me you went to Down Lane School which is no longer there.
If you like me remember Tottenham in a good way you may be interested in this website, it is very informative. https://tottenham-summerhillroad.com/ If you search the site you will find an article I did from the years I was in a band at the White Swan on the corner of Phillip Lane.
Hang on in there and keep taking the oxygen.
Kind Regards
