Trowbridge, Fore Street 1900

More about this scene
Trowbridge is the county town of Wiltshire, chosen in 1888 for reasons of communication. The impressive spire of St James's church dominates the horizon, but the grandeur of this perpendicular church has been obscured by urban development. The town has many fine Georgian buildings. The impressive building on the right displays, unusually, Tuscan and Corinthian columns.
