Any Information?

A Memory of Turbary Common.

My entry is not really a memory but a current experience and I would love to know anything about the History of Turbary Common other than the very little that is available on Bournemouth Council information sites.
I discovered Turbary Common/Park during the second Covid restriction period of 2019. It is a wonderful place and surprising to discover a SSSI in the middle of such built up areas. Thank goodness for the 19th Century lawmakers!

I can concur with the Council information to the effect that the Wildlife that can be seen is indeed varied, my latest visit found 6 Jays, myriad Robins, Greenfinches, Goldfinches, grazing Cows, Herons, Rabbits, Squirrels, Magpies and a pair of Bullfinches feeding. On previous visits, the insect life and wild flowers are fabulous too and I was treated to a young Wheatear.

Having accidentally got lost on a rarely walked path that simply ended, I found many old pieces of bone, undoubtedly from Cattle that have been grazed there historically.

I would love to see photos of pictures and hear stories of how the Common appeared and was used in the early 20th and 10th Centuries if anyone has stories to tell.
