Turnford, High Road c.1965

More about this scene
Many of the houses along the High Road at Turnford were built to accommodate the workers on the nearby market gardens. On the centre left, in the far distance, is a garage. A few years before the time of this photograph its yard had been filled with derelict cars, and it was a popular scavenging ground for spare parts. The writer bought a Ford V8 Pilot here, and ran it for a number of years using second-hand parts extracted, with some difficulty and hazard, from the mounds of abandoned vehicles.
