Magical!

A Memory of Tyn-y-Morfa.

Talking last night of childhood holidays, my thoughts always go back to Tyn Y Morfa. Travelled by train from Chester General to Talacre station in the late 40's and it seemed a long way away, later in my youth cycled there from the Wirral. Thought I'd google and there it is, a wonderful copy of a postcard. Can you make out a tiny white caravan about middle then left and again left of the parked car, that's where we stayed for our holiday. Follow the road right to the second bend was the shop with a chippy next door, so handy! The farm buildings to the rear alongside the railway line and crossing was a daily visit to get milk. Opposite the plot containing the caravan I seem to remember a green corrugated chapel The properties were basically wooden sheds, some were quite elaborate, with a sprinkling of converted railway carriages. A number of properties close to the sand hills were fighting a battle with the sand I remember. The sand hills were a wonderful playground for a young boy, magical!

I lived in the "bungalow" behind the shop, we went to the chapel every Sunday, we were permanent residents, and it was wonderful fun, but really hard, living there
Never thought about people living there but obviously people did, it wouldn't be all about holiday or summer retreats. Think I can just about remember properties behind and to the right of the shop onwards towards Gronant. What did your family do besides waiting for the mains water to reach the taps out in the roadway? Life must have been fun but as you say it must have been difficult, where were you schooled and what about transport?
