The Augustinian order founded a priory here in the 12th century. Following the Reformation, it ended up in the hands of a local squire. Later, it was owned by the Braddyll family, who did much reconstruction work before going bankrupt. Today, it is once again it is a religious house, but for the followers of Buddha.
