In the beautiful valley which lies between Guisborough and Saltburn, we find the hamlet of Upleatham and this delightful tiny church. The church was built in 1684, but the majority of the building was demolished in 1822 leaving this tiny building, which remains an integral part of the landscape today.

I have a photograph taken from the same angle on a day I will always remember. It was Easter Sunday 21st April 1957. So many things have happened since those days, but I remember that event very well.
When hebditch the builder built eskdale house in carlin how, its believed that a fireplace from upleatham hall was put into eskdale's hallway , the fireplace is still in situ and has a fire in it as I write . It would seem quite plausible , as its quite a grand afair !,
I have a connection to this church, my Great Great Great Grandfather Richard Stephenson and his wife are buried there, on the grave stone is mention of my Great Great Grandfather who died in Australia and his son who died seven days after being born. I would love to visit sometime but I don't think it will happen in this lifetime.
My grgrandparentsx3 were married in Upleatham church in September 1826. They were Thomas Dennis and Mary Miller. She had been baptised there in 1804.Does anyone recognise the names??? I am hoping to visit the area in September (2011).
