This is the B3165, heading southwards to Lyme Regis, on the slope above Springhead. Mona House (left) was partly thatched until a fire in 1924, when Lady Jones was rescued from her bedroom window by the local publican climbing up a ladder. Behind is half-timbered Leacroft on Tapper's Hill (centre left). The arched windows on Tollgate Cottage (centre right) look out on what was a turnpike toll road. Beyond are Havering Cottage and Solways (top right). The road has since been widened at West End (right).

Boarding School, Harcombe House.
In 1956 I went to Harcombe House as a boarder. Mrs Jowett was in charge of us - 52 girls. Crocket did the gardens and lived in a cottage on the lane, as did cook. Matron and the housemistress, Miss Haytor, lived in. The house cat was called Whitey - a poorly creature with scabby ears. One Of My Many Schools
I went to Uplyme school from about 1958/59, I was about 8 years old, we lived in Combpyne and came to school by bus which we caught at Rousden.  My memories of the school are three sisters by the name of Taylor, one I think was Belinda, and a girl called Ruth. School Days
My first school was at Uplyme. I started when I was 4 which was nearly 54 years ago now. I remember the headmaster was a Mr Denham and he lived in a house on the top of the hill opposite the Church. I remember being quite scared of him. The teacher who I also remember with great fondness was a Mrs Hurst, she was a very kind and caring lady. I also remember that at Christmas we always held the Nativity Play inside the church.

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
