Upper Chute School 1935
A Memory of Upper Wield.
I remember well the school, the huge playing field and the long walk there and back, sometimes having to wait for the cows to get out of the way. I still have a school photo of the pupils and the teachers. I lived in a cottage not far from the well which is not used any more, the thatched cottage I lived in with my mum and two brothers was burned down and in its place a modern-type house has been built. We left Upper Chute in 1932 and went to live in Jarrow on Tyne, my birth place, later, in 1938, to Surrey where I lived for many years, and I now live in Dorset. Upper Chute was a wonderful place to live in as a child.
